Why did we build Scripta?
After years supporting one of the largest unclaimed property reporting and consulting practices in the country as Chief Compliance Office and General Counsel, we designed Scripta to address the challenges that holders and service providers face daily.
Scripta provides the where, what, and when of unclaimed property:
Where?
Stop pouring through statutes to identify which provision applies. Scripta organizes all unclaimed property laws, regulations, and state guidance by NAUPA II property code, keyword, and/or topic.
What?
Deciphering the legal implications of state statutes, regulations, guidance and other obligations can be complex. Scripta provides independent analysis to distill these sources into easy-to-understand language.
When?
Missed deadlines can be costly. Scripta tracks all notice and reporting dates in a single place; and monitors state websites and handbooks for unannounced changes in remittance or delivery instructions.
Meet our founder
Prior to founding Scripta in 2021, Melissa served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer to Keane; the largest unclaimed property service provider at the time. In these positions Melissa was responsible for decision-making with respect to all interpretive questions on unclaimed property law.
During her tenure at Keane, Melissa also served as Deputy General Counsel and President of the wholly owned subsidiary, Keane Financial, LLC. Keane Financial, LLC is a licensed, self-clearing, broker-dealer. Melissa held Series 7 and Series 24 licenses during this time.
Licensed to practice law in the State of New York since 2008, Melissa was in private practice at a boutique New York City firm from 2008 – 2012. Melissa holds a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law and a B.S. from New York University.
